AGRA: A seven-year-old girl who went missing on Tuesday afternoon was found dead inside a flour container in their tenant's room on the first floor of the house in Agra's Tajganj area on Wednesday night. Tenant Sunil Kumar, 35, who worked in the shoe unit owned by the girl's father Dinesh Kumar, is absconding.
According to the girl's uncle Rajesh, Sunil had been living there for two years and often took the child out. However, he had not paid rent for the past five months, prompting the family to lock the room and ask him to vacate. It was only after he paid Rs 5,000 as part of the dues recently was the room unlocked.
Soon after Pratigya, a Class 1 student, went missing on Tuesday, a complaint was lodged at Tajganj police station, and an intensive search was launched.
With no progress, police suspected Sunil's involvement and broke open his room on Wednesday night where they discovered the body.
DCP Syed Ali Abbas said there were no visible injury marks on the body, which has been sent for postmortem.
As news spread, hundreds of angry residents took to the streets and blocked the Fatehabad Road, demanding the immediate arrest of the suspect, who is on the run.
The girl's father alleged that Sunil had lured the child with money and killed her and said the culprit should get death as punishment.
